DOWNTOWN — SPiN, the trendy New York table tennis club owned by Susan Sarandon and sometimes visited by Justin Bieber, is opening in Chicago next month.
The club will open March 10 at Marina City, the landmarked “corncob” towers at 300 N. State St., according to a SPiN spokeswoman.
The announcement arrives about 11 months after the company first shared its plans to open here. Once open, SPiN will feature 15 to 20 ping-pong tables and a menu meant for sharing with items including pizza and sliders.
The Chicago club will follow others in Los Angeles, Dubai and Toronto. Sarandon opened the first SPiN in 2009 in New York after hosting many a table tennis party in the lofts of TriBeCa. The New York club is known for hosting celebrities including pop star Justin Bieber.
Guests pay to reserve the ping-pong tables at SPiN. Chicago pricing has not yet been determined, but the rate in New York is $50 for 30 minutes.
The club will be the latest evidence of an apparent table tennis trend Downtown. Killerspin opened a venue two years ago at 135 S. LaSalle St., and London-based Bounce Ping Pong expects to open a club later this year at 230 N. Clark St.
