A Northwestern University police lieutenant is facing child pornography charges in Cook County, according to court records and officials.

Ronald Godby, 53, of Mount Prospect, has been charged with manufacturing and possession of child pornography, as well as grooming, the records say. He appeared in bond court Wednesday afternoon in Rolling Meadows, where his bond on the felony charges was set at $100,000.

Godby, who also runs a photography business from a studio in his home, is accused of taking photographs revealing the genitalia of a girl in 2013 and again last year, around the time the girl turned 17, according to a criminal complaint read by a prosecutor at the hearing.

The complaint said he also reached out to the girl in Snapchat in January, asking her to do another photo shoot and attached photos of a scantily clad woman, telling the girl that she would look good posed in a similar matter. He also sent her an electronic image of a penis, the document said.

The alleged victim told other students about the photo shoot. Another student told a teacher, leading to authorities being alerted, authorities said.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s task force for Internet crimes against children executed a search warrant on Godby’s residence and workplace in Monday.

“When informed by detectives that they would be executing search warrants on his computers, defendant stated, ‘If you have enough for a search warrant, I’m [expletive],'” the complaint states.

Godby works in the investigations division of the police force for the Evanston-based campus, a Northwestern official confirmed.

Northwestern spokesman Alan Cubbage said Godby has been placed on administrative leave and banned from entering the university’s campuses.

“There is no indication of any risk to the Northwestern community from this individual at this time,” Cubbage said in a release.
