The Bears on Monday promoted offensive lineman Cornelius Edison from the practice squad to the active roster, claimed tight end Daniel Brown off waivers and cut running back Joique Bell.

The team also placed quarterback Brian Hoyer on injured reserve with a broken left arm and signed offensive lineman Arturo Uzdavinis to the practice squad.

Edison joined the Bears last year as an undrafted rookie from Portland State. He spent the final five weeks of his rookie season on the practice squad after recovering from a torn ACL he suffered during a pre-draft workout.

Brown has appeared in eight games with one start the past two seasons with the Ravens, catching six passes for 64 yards. He entered the NFL in 2015 with Baltimore as an undrafted free agent from James Madison.

Bell appeared in the last four games with the Bears, rushing for six yards on three carries, all in a Week 4 win over the Lions. He joined the Bears Sept. 27 after appearing in 68 games with 15 starts over six NFL seasons with the Eagles (2010), Colts (2010) and Lions (2011-15), rushing for 2,235 yards and 22 touchdowns on 561 carries and catching 161 passes for 1,640 yards and one TD.

Hoyer underwent surgery Sunday to repair the broken arm he sustained in last Thursday night’s loss to the Packers. In starting five games in place of the injured Jay Cutler, Hoyer became the first quarterback in Bears history to pass for at least 300 in four straight games.

This season he completed 67 percent of his passes for 1,445 yards with six TDs, no interceptions and a 98.0 passer rating, the highest of his career when he’s made at least five starts in a season.

Uzdavinis spent most of the offseason with the Texans after entering the NFL this year as an undrafted rookie from Tulane.
